Parliamentary question"E-homework diary" for schools still in test phase, says Claude Meisch

The Minister of Education said this school year would be used as a pilot phase, introducing the concept of electronic homework diaries to staff, parents and pupils alike while they familiarise themselves with the new app.

In response to a parliamentary question by the CSV, Claude Meisch said the electronic homework diary system would be fully introduced for daily use as of the next school year. The pilot phase was launched in September for primary schools.

The so-called “e-Bichelchen” will be developed further over the coming school years and will be available as a smartphone app as well. At the moment the online homework diary is mainly to be used to coordinate and organise homework updates both at home and in after-school care (for example, at the Maison relais). In future, Meisch said the app could potentially monitor sickness absences, with the option to report these online. The app is being developed by the Ministry of Education’s IT management centre (Centre de gestion informatique de l’éducation).

The ministry said they did not foresee a risk of people becoming confused by the concept of having to use a single app for communication between schools and parents.
