The drop in temperatures over the last few days has been accompanied by foggy conditions, which can cause accidents due to lack of visibility.
One motorist recently commented that they had seen a number of vehicles without their lights on in the mornings, despite visibility being poor.

In addition, Godart explained the unpredictability of foggy weather contributed to accidents, as sheet fog can suddenly appear after a clear stretch of road. Many drivers have a tendency to brake in such a situation, which can cause pile ups.
The months of October, November and December are particularly risky.
