The National Addiction Prevention Centre (CNAPA) has launched an information campaign to discuss the dangers of addiction.

Luxembourg’s cannabis law is to be regulated. The draft law is waiting approval by the state council, and would allow for limited personal consumption.

To that extent, the National Addiction Prevention Centre (CNAPA) has launched an information campaign about the dangers of addiction. The aim is also to answer any questions users may have.

Addiction is present in out society and must not be tucked away, says Minister of Health Paulette Lenert. Therefore people must be informed and educated so that they themselves can assess the risks of their consumption.

Other topics that are covered by the campaign are the dangers of the black market, what the substances are composed of, and how they
effect your mental and physical health.
Especially important is targeting the young public, says CNAPA director Elena Bienfait: “We organise a ‘Cannabis Suitcase On Tour’. These are information days where experts answer all questions you may have. There is also a hotline where callers remain anonymous.”

The aim is to have a conversation, also on social media, where campaigns are running as well.

“There are myths and stories. It gets played down but also dramatised. We don’t want either, because dramatising too can be counter-productive”, says Bienfait.

Cannabis remains illegal and cannot be grown privately - the new law may change that, when households can grow up to four plants.
