Kanner-JugendtelefonHelpline for young people used more than 1,700 times in 2019

The "Kanner-Jugendtelefon" and its online services Help, Elterentelefon, Bee-Secure-Helpline and Bee-Secure-Stopline have compiled a report on the last year.

All services were used 1,713 times in 2019, increasing by 100 compared to the previous year.

782 calls were carried out by children or young people, 237 of which were made online. The majority of those who requested help were aged over 25 and were familiar with this type of support over the phone or internet.

The second highest bracket for calls were children aged between 10 and 12 years of age, followed by adolescents aged 13-15.

The most discussed topic was mental health including loneliness, depression, fear, worry, pressure and even stress. Service officials have also noticed an increase in contact seeking support for suicidal feelings or concerns. Last year, the Kanner-Jugendtelefon directly supported 61 children and young people, as well as their parents, for the risk of suicide. This is twice as many cases as in 2018.

114 conversations dealt with abuse and violence, including 68 severe cases of harassment or online bullying.

180 people took advantage of the parents' telephone line to express concerns about their children.

The Bee-Secure-Helpline service has been used 514 times, as well as the Bee-Secure-Stopline platform, which experienced a high number of reports of illegal content concerning sexual abuse of minors.

Figures for racism and racial abuse are also on the rise, which officials noting an increase in xenophobia.
