The windmill tower on the site of the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL) will be rebuilt close to its original location, the Ministry of Culture has confirmed. The CHL will cover the costs.

Plans for the new clinic and expansion of the emergency department initially required the full redevelopment of the site, including the demolition of the historic windmill, which is protected as a national heritage site.

Following extensive discussions, a compromise has now been reached. The 160-year-old structure, which is listed in the supplementary inventory, is set to be better integrated into the site and made more visible, according to the ministry.

The materials will be preserved and the windmill rebuilt after the second quarter of 2029 at the intersection of Route d’Arlon and Val Fleuri, near the tram line.
