A week before the municipal council of the City of Luxembourg is due to vote on the land restoration of the Pétrusse valley, the concerned commissions have received informing concerning the project.

There will be two phases of land restoration works, the first of which will be completed before 2023, when the national horticultural exhibition is due to take place.

In general, the valley is due to undergo a transformation curbing its wilder side. The Pétrusse river will have its concrete basin removed for a more natural look, which consequently means that trees will be cut down. Some trees will be cut down for aesthetics, whereas others will be chopped because they will be in the way of the river. By the end of the project, the environmental impact will be positive.

Sworn to secrecy

Those commission members who stayed to the end of the meeting were explicitly forbidden from sharing further information concerning the project. The mayor, Lydie Polfer, forbade it citing a disposition of the municipal regulations.

Whilst DP councillors accepted the secrecy, LSAP councillor Marc Angel deplored the lack of transparency.
