DudelangeLiberty Steel presents new business plan, Minister remains sceptical

RTL Today
The announcement was made by Minister of the Economy Franz Fayot following a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Affairs on Thursday.

However, Fayot made it clear that he remains sceptical, stating that the Ministry is “currently adopting a ‘wait and see’ mentality”. Fayot pointed out that “few promises have been kept” over the past 15 months. The morale of the employees at the Dudelange site is “not good”, suppliers no longer trust the company, and many customers have already left, the Minister explained. While the Ministry has a “plan B as well as a potential buyer” for the Dudelange rolling mill, Fayot acknowledges that Liberty Steel is adamant on keeping the property.

In other words, the Minister would have preferred that the buyer, who is said to have already prepared a “sound” plan, acquire and take over the Dudelange site, which has not produced anything since the beginning of April.
