Last Sunday, the Centre hospitalier du Nord (CHdN) announced that is has to temporarily shut down its maternity unit due to staff shortages. Following the decision, Minister of Health Paulette Lenert and Minister of Social Security Claude Haagen offered proposals on how to ensure the preservation of the unit and the well-being of both mother and child.

The LSAP North fraction now laments that the Greens and the Democratic Party took time to criticise Ministers Lenert and Hagen, but failed to provide background to the decision of the closure and any concrete solutions to the problem.

The press release further criticises MP Jean-Paul Schaaf from the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV), who is also Mayor of Ettelbruck. The LSAP North fraction questions that Schaaf supported the closure of the maternity unit in his function as CHdN board member, but simultaneously filed an urgent parliamentary enquiry about the decision in his function as MP.
