The Luxembourg Refugee Council unites several associations that actively work on supporting refugees in the Grand Duchy. The focus of Monday’s presse conference was integration.
Sergio Ferreira from the Association for the Support of Immigrant Workers (ASTI) argued that refugees should be integrated into the job market as soon as they have filed an asylum request rather than waiting until said request has been approved. Furthermore, the recognition of diplomas is a procedure that needs to be simplified, noted officials.
Another issue was how refugee families get reunited, particularly cases where minors arrived in Luxembourg ahead of their parents. Frank Wies from Amnesty International Luxembourg explained that housing support for people with refugee status is a related issue in urgent need of improvement.
