A man accused of repeatedly hitting his girlfriend was given a prison sentence of four years, with a conditional release after two years. One of the conditions requires he undergo psychiatric treatment. He is also to pay a fine of €700.
The accused is said to have hit his partner deliberately in the stomach, despite her being pregnant. He had also, at the time, claimed that the attack was meant to trigger a miscarriage - his girlfriend later withdrew this statement in court. Fortunately, both mother and child survived the attack.
