Bausch argued that studies have shown that “the majority of children under 15 years of age wear a helmet anyway”. The Minister went on to say that, therefore, he would like to continue to focus on information and awareness campaigns. According to Bausch, making it compulsory to wear a helmet could even be “counterproductive”. In any case, the Minister stated, it is “mainly the infrastructure” that is critical to guarantee the safety of cyclists.
Bausch made these statements in his reply to a question by MP Francine Closener from the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP) in the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday.
