The monument, whose name translates to "peace tree", is a piece by Unesco peace artist Hedva Ser and is designed to underline the army's peace missions. The ceremony took place in the presence of HRH the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, as well as the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Fernand Etgen, Minister of Defence François Bausch, Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg, and Alain Duschène, the army's Chief of Staff.
The location is no coincidence - Avenue de la Liberté is associated with the liberation of Luxembourg in 1944, and the current Spuerkees building was once the first seat for Ceca, the European Coal and Steel Community.
