
Inmates were able to move freely within the prison walls and get in touch with their family at all times via Skype and phone at all times, the minister said.
Inmates also received two €50 allowances to phone or skype their loved ones when visits were banned as a precautionary virus measure.
Tanson conceded that the general mood had been tense at the prison at the beginning of the pandemic. She claimed that the prisoners gradually shook off this sense of unease.
According to the minister, each inmate received two face masks while prison guards received masks, gloves, and disinfectant and other sanitising products to clean their offices. Officials decided against making disinfectant readily available at the prison in order to prevent misuse of the product.
A number of nurses worked at the hospital during the pandemic to raise awareness and test inmates for the virus when necessary.
