The Ministry of Health and Social Security has confirmed that an orthopaedic surgeon will remain suspended for a further 21 months, although it did not name the doctor in its statement. The case is understood to concern Philippe Wilmes, an orthopaedic surgeon under investigation over allegedly unjustified operations.

The suspension remains provisional and applies specifically to surgical procedures.

The decision follows a report by three experts who, after analysing ten specific cases, unanimously concluded that unjustified operations had been carried out.

According to the Ministry of Health and Social Security, extending the ban on performing surgery is a measure aimed at protecting public health while the disciplinary procedure conducted by the Medical Council continues.
