MP Marc Goergen confirmed to RTL that his party had been in contact with da Costa, who was let go from his position at RSS Hydro in autumn 2021 following his criticism of the government’s management of the devastating floods which swept across Europe last summer.

Sasha Baillie currently heads up Luxinnovation, as the government’s premier adviser within the Ministry of the Economy. Goergen said they would also like to consult the Minister for the Economy, Franz Fayot, to determine whether pressure had been put upon da Costa’s former employer which led to his subsequent dismissal.

On Wednesday, Fayot expressed shock that his name had been linked to the issue, stating he had never spoken to da Costa or his former manager at the RSS Hydro start-up. Fayot told RTL that officials at the Ministry of the Economy had assured him no pressure had been exerted.

There is currently no date set for the Chamber hearing, although it is likely to take place within the next week. The Pirate Party also requested that the Director of the Water Management Office, Jean-Paul Lickes, speak to parliament on the topic. The majority had rejected the request to hear da Costa’s account of events last week.
