After reports of overcrowding and littering in recent weeks, the Grand Ducal police have issued warnings to those planning to visit the popular bathing spot this weekend.

In a statement, police highlighted designated parking areas, including two free car parks. There will also be shuttle buses on hand to transport visitors to the lake.

Visitors should not park on the side of the road, nor should they block any access routes for emergency vehicles.

Police presence will increase this weekend around the lake and any infractions will be passed to the public prosecutor’s office.

Traffic information for visitors to the Upper Sûre reservoir

Due to the summer temperatures predicted for the coming weekend, we would like to remind visitors to the Upper Sûre reservoir of the various rules regarding access and the parking situation around the reservoir and its banks.

How to get there and parking

Visitors planning a stay at the Upper Sûre lake can use public transport, such as bus lines 535, 624 or 627 and the Stausee-Navette (line 690), which runs every hour.

If you arrive by car, use the signposted parking spaces at the various locations around the lake. Never park your car in places that are not expressly intended for this purpose and never block the access and exit routes for rescue vehicles. If the various paid parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the lawns around the reservoir are full, the access routes for visitors to the towns of Insenborn and Lultzhausen will be closed to traffic.

Alternatively, you have the option of using the free car parks “Am Kéilert” (700 parking spaces and shuttle service every 20 minutes on weekends) and “Kräizfeld” (250 parking spaces) on the N27 near Insenborn and Lultzhausen. Both car parks are signposted.

Important: On Sunday, 3 July 2022, the village of Lultzhausen will be completely closed to traffic due to an event. However, the two parking areas mentioned above can still be used by visitors.

Rules of conduct at the Upper Sûre reservoir

Visitors should never attempt to reach the banks of the reservoir outside the permitted zones. Violations of the applicable provisions are consistently forwarded to the public prosecutor’s office.

In this regard, we would like to point out to visitors that the police will continue to be more present around and on the Upper Sûre reservoir and will carry out checks.
