The police issued an appeal for witnesses to help identify a man who stole a woman's credit card on Wednesday, but provided the wrong photographs in their release.

On Thursday, the police notified the press that there had been a mistaken in a call for witnesses forming part of Wednesday's police bulletin. The police published the wrong photographs. The person photographed in the initial call for witnesses is no way related to the incident in question, which concerns a credit card theft in Merl.

The police took the opportunity to provide an apology to the person initially pictured in relation with the theft and highlighted that this person was and is at no point related to the crime. Out of respect to the individual's privacy, the photos have been removed from RTL Today.

The initial article

On 9 November 2018, a woman was shopping at around 11am, at which point a man began speaking to her. She was paying for her shopping at the time, when the man addressed her and later realised that he had stolen her credit card from her bag.

The suspected thief then went to a cash machine in Merl in the capital and withdrew a large amount of money.
