Residents and business owners alike were hoping to put further pressure on the city's mayor and governmental authorities as they blocked traffic on Rue de Strasbourg in a peaceful protest.

The protest developed as a result of the drug problems and increase in crime and prostitution in the area. According to disgruntled residents, insufficient action has taken place to improve the situation, and so they took to the streets.

The issues raised are certainly not new, but the situation has worsened in recent years, with affected inhabitants and business owners citing the feeling of insecurity in the district.

Recent reports on RTL and in other media, as well as a residents' meeting at the end of September, have dealt with the issue of insecurity and allowed residents to express their concerns and anger at the situation.
