A police operation in Käerjeng on Monday morning led to a temporary road closure on Avenue de Luxembourg before being resolved, with new details now confirming that the incident involved a reported hostage situation that was not substantiated.

Police informed the media at around 8.40am on Monday of an ongoing operation on Avenue de Luxembourg in Käerjeng, prompting the closure of the road. Officers on site asked the public to follow instructions, with no further information initially provided.

Shortly after 9am, the road was reopened, which was confirmed by police at around 9.11am.

Hostage-taking situation reported

Further details released at around 9.20am clarified the situation. Shortly before 8am, a hostage-taking had been reported at a supermarket on Avenue de Luxembourg.

Several police patrols were immediately despatched to the scene, along with a special intervention unit, and a security perimeter was established. The supermarket was thoroughly searched, but no evidence of a hostage situation was found.

An investigation into the origin and circumstances of the report is currently under way.
