The 2019 1 May celebration was especially significant, given the LGS's founding one hundred years ago, and took place in the Neuhäusgen Capelle de Notre Bois. The chapel is significant in the history of Luxembourg's Scouts and Guides. Inaugurated in 1952, the chapel was the result of a promise made by Scout resistance members.
Those resistance members were conscripted during WWII and vowed to build a house of worship if they came back alive.
The LGS also celebrated their Chief Scout - Grand Duke Jean, named Chief Scout in October 1945. The monarch enjoyed this honour for 74 years and remains especially significant to the Scouts of Luxembourg.
There will be further celebrations for the centenary planned in Luxembourg City, Mersch, and Belval on 18 May.
