RTL Today
The budget will be "realistic, united and responsible" said Minister of Finance Yuriko Backes, who will make the detailed announcement at 9am on Wednesday in the Chamber of Deputies.

It is a week of political highlights: After Tuesday’s State of the Nation speech, in which Bettel underlined the country is going through “the worst crisis since the Second World War”, Backes will outline the financials of the upcoming year.

On Wednesday morning, the minister will symbolically submit the draft budget to Fernand Etgen, President of the Chamber of Deputies, and André Bauler, President of the Finance and Budget Commission. The document will also be handed to rapporteur Max Hahn (DP).

The budget contains countercyclical investments to an amount of €3.8 billion. According to RTL information, several tax measures are envisioned: The single-parent tax credit and tax credit for people earning the social minimum wage will be increased.

In addition, the budgetary framework should be improved to attract the “highly qualified talents” the country needs to accelerate its digitalisation process. “To make the country more attractive” and “to be able to maintain our standard of living”, said Bettel on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister also hinted that “the administrations and authorities in charge of cybersecurity will receive many more resources in the next budget, and the years that follow, to protect our country from attacks”.

MPs will finetune the budget between mid-October and mid-December. Its rapporteur, Max Hahn will oversee this parliamentary work but also the multi-annual planning til 2026.
