MerschSyvicol organises roundtable discussion for social offices

RTL Today
On Monday, the Union of Cities and Municipalities in Luxembourg (Syvicol) organised a roundtable discussion between the country's social offices to address inflation, energy prices, and housing.

Inflation and rising energy prices are putting an increasingly great number of people into financial troubles. Luxembourg has a total of 30 social offices where people can seek help and advice on how to get through these difficult times.

By invitation of Syvicol, representatives from the different social offices thus convened in Mersch to discuss these current challenges on Monday. By the end of the day, officials seemed to agree that an increasing number of people has to rely on social support.

Housing remains the number one issue. Our colleagues from RTL spoke to the social workers at the meeting, who explained that some families have been on waiting lists for years and that the offices are often unable to help. The problem also tends to mostly affect less qualified people and divorced couples.

Minister of Family Affairs and Integration Corinne Cahen and Minister for Home Affairs Taina Bofferding were also present at the roundtable discussions. They ensured that the ‘Housing Pact 2.0' will provide more social housing. Henri Kox, the Minister for Housing, did not receive an invitation for the meeting.
