A schoolmate of the accused, who was originally aware of the message on social networks, alerted the school, who in turn rapidly called the police. The student who apparently sent the threat was arrested and was not at the school at the time of the arrest.

Government officials are stressing that there was no danger at any time to either students or staff at the school. At all levels, the school authorities, the police and the Minister for Education, Children and Youth acted properly and carried out their responsibilities.

Authorities are also warning that according to Article 38 of the law of 10 August 1992 concerning youth protection, it is illegal to reveal or publish details of the case, including the student's identity. The offence carries a penalty of up to six months in prison and a fine of €10,000.

With 1,890 students enrolled this year, the LTMA is the largest school in Luxembourg.
