RenovationsVianden outdoor pool likely closed until 2024

The popular leisure spot offers a spectacular view on Vianden castle, but its amenities are in need of a complete overhaul.

The pool has not been open to visitors since its closing for the winter season in 2019 and has deteriorated since. That year, after a small child nearly drowned, an analysis found a number of safety issues.

Claude Tonino, mayor of Vianden, admits that there has been minimal investment over the decades, as the pool was running a deficit of 120,000 to 150,000 euros. Now, Tonino is hoping to relaunch with a completely new concept, offering exciting, more sports-oriented amenities and of course, renovating the existing infrastructure.

The money required for this is far beyond what a municipality like Vianden can afford - around 14 to 15 million euros. Currently there are discussions with various ministries in the hopes of securing the necessary funds. In the meantime, the pool will sadly remain closed.
