In a second instance verdict the defendant was sentenced to 10 years behind bars, of which four years will be on probation. He was also sentenced to therapy and was ordered to pay his victim €30,000 in damages.
On Tuesday however, the defendant's lawyer demanded a lower damage payment of €25,000.
The man stands accused of having raped a woman repeatedly between April and August 2011 in a pub in Niederkorn. The woman was also allegedly held against her will by the man for about a month.
A second victim was allegedly raped once by the defendant in July 2010, but this was not subject to Tuesday's hearing.
Ms Fahime-Ayadi, the defendant's lawyer, demanded that the damage payment be reduced while the victim's lawyer, Mr Marc Lentz, wanted to see the most recent verdict confirmed by the court of appeals.
The woman's lawyer recounted how his client was abused by the defendant over a period of several months. She was at the defendant's mercy and didn't see any other way out than to start a fire to alert others to her situation. The woman has suffered severe psychiatric problems as a result of her experience.
She was subsequently sentenced to 10 years behind bars with probation for committing arson. The charges for the current trial emerged from that initial trial.
The defendant claims never to have done "such a thing" at the end of the hearing on Tuesday.
The court of appeals verdict is expected for 26 February.
