Road safety52 "dangerous" trees along roads to be felled in 2022

RTL Today
Trees on the side of roads are still an important factor in severe road traffic collisions.

Two years ago, the Road Administration launched a study which identified around 140 trees on 20 dangerous routes which have caused severe accidents.

52 of these are slated to be felled this year. They will be compensated in other locations.

The Ponts et Chaussées also regularly verify if guard rails can be installed in front of the trees instead. Around 25 road kilometers could be secured this way in the last 3 years without felling trees. Two of these are between Bettel and Fouhren, and near Eischen.

A pilote project is currently being run between Gonderange and Eschweiler on CR 132. Instead of felling the trees, they will be moved into the nearby fields. This requires the premission of the respective owners, of course, and subsidies will be available to sweeten the deal. So far this type of project only exists in the municipality of Junglinster.

These details were provided by ministers Dieschbourg a Bausch as a response to a parliamentary question by CSV MP Martine Hansen.

According to RTL information, last there were 9 fatal accidents involving trees.
