Last year, the Luxembourg government purchased 207 vehicles, out of which more than half rely on fossil fuels. The full list includes 135 cars and transporters with thermal engines, seven hybrids, 37 plug-in hybrids, and 38 fully electric vehicles.

Minister Bausch acknowledged that government vehicles should be 100% electric. However, he explained that the Ministry for the Environment awards permits in cases where no electric alternative is suitable for a specific service.

The government's complete fleet encompasses 2,202 vehicles, out of which 2,021 rely on fossil fuels. 91 are fully electric, 23 are hybrids, and 67 are plug-in hybrids. In 2020, the government spent close to €15 million on said vehicles, three quarters of which went to maintenance costs.
