Democratic Party MP Max Ham submitted a parliamentary question querying the regulation of e-scooters in Luxembourg. Minister for Mobility and Public Works François Bausch recited the Highway Code, pointing that the code already includes dispositions for e-scooters.
As per the Highway Code, Bausch wrote, e-scooter users are prohibited from riding them on pavements and must instead use the scooters on the road. Electric apparatuses with fewer than two wheels are prohibited from both the roads and pavements. In order to adapt the Highway Code to more modern apparatuses, Bausch revealed that a taskforce is currently in the process of researching a recommendation. Once the taskforce completes its work, the Highway Code will then be adapted.
The taskforce is researching similar regulations in other countries as well as studies on e-scooters. The report should be complete by the end of the year.
