MP Cecchetti enquired about the capacity limits of the “Wanteraktioun” (“Winter Action”), a winter homeless shelter located in Findel. She further wanted to know how many people currently make use of the offer, what the average occupation rate has been so far this winter, and if the Minister believes that the structure’s capacity is sufficient.
In her official response, Minister Cahen explained that an average of 113 people sleep at the shelter, which means that less than half of the 250 bed capacity is currently in use. During the fist month of this season’s winter action, the occupation rate was at 40%. It later increased to 51% between December and mid January.
A second building, set up for emergencies and able to accommodate up to 40 people, is currently in use to help isolate homeless people who contracted Covid-19.
In her response, Minister Cahen thus concludes that the shelter’s capacity limits are more than able to satisfy current needs.
