
Both politicians note that in our neighbouring countries, supermarkets have made significantly higher profits since the beginning of the outbreak.
They therefore addressed the following questions at Minister for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Lex Delles:
In his official response, Minister Delles confirmed that Luxembourgish supermarkets have increased their revenue over the past 18 months, which numbers from the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC) reveal.
During the first pandemic year, the sector recorded a 9% growth in comparison to 2019. Similarly, the first trimester of this year has already been higher at 7.8%. Especially during the first lockdown, supermarkets were able to benefit from the fact that most other businesses were classified as non-essential and therefore shut.
Petrol stations were also significantly affected at a 16% decrease of their usual revenue.
