Aortic aneurysmJean-Claude Juncker's operation went well: spokeswoman

RTL Today
The former Prime Minister of Luxembourg had to undergo surgery on Tuesday due to an aortic aneurysm.

The European Commission president had the procedure abroad and, according to a European Commission spokeswoman, Juncker would be able to leave the intensive care unit later on Wednesday.

It remains unclear when the 64-year-old politician will be able to return to work. This will depend on his recovery and further developments.

Juncker's mandate as European Commission president should have ended at the end of October, but was extended as his successor Ursula von der Leyen's commission is not yet complete.
