With 360.7 hours of sunshine, July 2026 ranks as the second sunniest July since records began in 1947.
Last month's extraordinary temperatures can be explained by a weather pattern dominated by high pressure over Western and Central Europe. Atlantic depressions stayed well to the north, and the associated subsidence held back both cloud cover and rainfall. All of that combined to deliver sweltering sunshine at Findel Airport.
A ranking of the five sunniest Julys since 1947 shows that July 2026 fits into a recent pattern:
Meteolux points out that all five of these Julys have occurred over the past 20 years, which shows how recent summers have been evolving at Findel Airport.
