Luxembourg City centre will be transformed into a giant playground on 31 July and 1 August as the free 'Kanner in the City' festival returns with water games, creative workshops, and family challenges. This year's edition, themed 'Eng Rees duerch d'Kannerbicher' ('A journey through the world of children's books') will offer activities inspired by well-known literary worlds.
The 2026 programme is aimed primarily at children aged four to nine and their families.
The festival will run from 2.30 to 5.30pm on Friday, 31 July, across Place d'Armes, Place Guillaume II (aka Knuedler), Place Jan Palach, Place des Capucins, and Place du Puits-Rouge. Activities will continue from 2.30pm to 6.30pm on Saturday, 1 August, at Place d'Armes, Place Guillaume II, and Place Jan Palach.
Organised by Luxembourg City's childcare service and Creative Learning Centre as part of the annual 'Aktioun Bambësch' programme, Kanner in the City brings together local activity coordinators and professional mobile play teams from across Europe. The long-running festival traditionally offers games and workshops for children and adults, giving families an opportunity to explore the capital while taking part in playful and creative activities.
