Ever since the war in Ukraine has begun, people have been looking for ways to support those whose lives have just been turned upside down. At the secondary school in Ettelbruck, volunteers collected medical aids over the past couple of days to then send them to the Ukrainian border via Poland with the help of a lorry.
The Ettelbruck fire brigade was in charge of organising the supplies and received their respective lists from the Ukrainian Defence Ministry. Boxes with valuable goods were thus labelled both in English and Ukrainian. Henri Scholtes, president of the Amicale Fire Brigade, explained that people and organisations were also very generous with their financial donations: “We have barely received donations below €50.”
After a few days, volunteers had compiled more than 30 stacks of goods, which were then loaded onto a lorry on Friday, before being shipped to the Ukrainian border on Sunday morning.
