According to the weekly review published by the Ministry of Health, 5,741 people tested positive for Covid-19 between 27 June and 3 July.

The number of PCR tests performed during the week of 27 June to 3 July increased from 11,131 to 14,201. At the same time, the number of positive cases increased. Two weeks ago, 4,485 people tested positive, compared to 5,741 last week. This represents an increase of 28%. 53 people reported a positive rapid antigen test. The positivity rate on all tests performed (prescriptions, contact tracing) increased from 40.29% to 40.43%.

Between 27 June and 3 July, two people died with or from Covid-19. The average age of the deceased is 69 years.

As of 3 July, the number of active infections has increased to 10,488 from 8,834 on 26 June. The number of people who have recovered from an infection has increased to 255,322 (from 251,237). The average age of those diagnosed with Covid-19 is 39.9 years.

19 new Covid-19 patients were admitted to the standard care units of the country’s hospitals, compared to 13 the previous week. In the intensive care unit, the number of occupied beds decreased from 2 to 1. The average age of patients is 53 years.

The incidence rate increased to 890 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over 7 days, compared to 695 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the previous week. The greatest increase is recorded in the age group of 70–74-year-olds (+70%) and the 20–29-year-olds (+61%). The lowest incidence rate is recorded in the 75+ age group (515 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), while the highest incidence rate is recorded in the 30-44 age group (1,509 cases per 100,000 inhabitants). The family circle is the most frequent source of infection (24%), followed by travel abroad (19%), and leisure activities (14%). In 26% of cases, the source of infection could not be determined. The review points out that with the increasing number of cases, it is difficult to call, review and determine the likely source of infection for all cases. Priority for calls is given to cases over 60 years of age as well as to residents of care homes.

For the week of 27 June to 3 July 2022, 76 people received their first vaccine dose, 140 received their second dose, 866 people received their first booster, and 592 their second booster (fourth dose), bringing the total number of vaccines administered as of 4 July to 1,286,324.

474,011 residents are currently considered fully vaccinated, which corresponds to a vaccination rate of 78.8% of the population over the age of 5.

According to the latest CORONASTEP report by the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), the level of contamination of the 13 wastewater treatment plants analysed during week 26 of 2022 shows a still very high prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater. Both at national and regional level, the trend is similar to that of the previous week, but a slight increase is noticeable.
