Whilst certainly not a surprise to anybody, Post Luxembourg will continue providing the universal postal services in Luxembourg for another ten years in good news for the business and postal workers.

The Luxembourg Regulatory Institute (ILR) announced that it has decided to renew the contract for Post Luxembourg to provide universal postal services for the next ten years, until 2029.

After the ILR launched the public consultation in August, Post Luxembourg was the only provider to submit an application. In its press release, the ILR explained that if other providers had submitted applications to liberalise the postal services sector, it would have examined these applications.

After a 2012 law stipulated the liberalisation of the postal market, Post Luxembourg was designated the provider for the next seven years. Upon the expiry of this contract, the ILR launched its consultation.

Universal postal services must be guaranteed five days a week and concern the collection, sorting, and distribution of postal items weighing up to two kilograms and parcels up to 10 kilograms. The universal service also includes services related to registered post and insured items.
