
However, the individuals who have been soliciting funds and claiming to do so on behalf of the NGO are not actually affiliated with Handicap International. The NGO gave an example of a priest in Ettelbruck who thought he was donating, and consequently gave €2,500 to the individual who solicited him. However, the priest was actually scammed and has since reported the incident to the police.
The organisation has called for the public to be especially on their guard when faced with requests to donate. Handicap International reiterated that it never asks donors for cash, but instead asks individuals to register via a form. Additionally, their employees or volunteers always have badges that allow them to be identified.
