
At 4.40pm Thursday, a blatantly inebriated driver attracted attention on Route de Luxembourg in Bettembourg. The driver had parked their car while having the four indicators on. The man not only portrayed obvious signs of alcohol consumption, he also did not respect his already existing driving ban. He was arrested by the police because of his non-cooperative behaviour. In addition, the prosecutor’s office issued a fine.
At 5.40pm, an accident occurred in Rue Grande-Duchesse Charlotte in Mersch. At a crossing with Rue Emmanuel Servais, an electric scooter and a car collided. The scooter’s driver was admitted to the hospital after receiving first aid. The car driver had to conduct an alcohol test which came back positive. The police seized his license and he was fined.
During the night leading up to Friday, a police patrol witnessed a vehicle driving at high speed in Verlorenkost. As the vehicle was stopped, the officials were greeted by a whiff of alcohol. After an alcohol test came back positive, the driver was issued a ban.
Another accident caused by inebriation took place in Dudelange. In Rue Jean Simon, a car swerved onto the opposite lane and collided with a police car. No one was injured in the accident. The driver’s license was confiscated after a positive alcohol test, and he was penalised.
In Rue des Peupliers in Hamm, a car was reported because its motor was running. The man behind the wheel was fast asleep when the police arrived to wake him. Later, a police patrol in the city followed a vehicle which had ignored a red light. Both incidents involved alcohol and were punished with fines.
At 6am on Friday, the police was called to a car which had broken down on the A1. The driver had a flat tire, and since he was also under the influence of alcohol, he received a provisional driving ban.
