A police operation took place in Bamertal on Wednesday evening. As a result, the N7 from Diekirch towards Bamertal was closed from 6pm until around 9pm. Police have now provided details of the background to the operation.
At around 6pm, officers had been called to a residence on Rue Bamertal after a report of aggression and excessive noise. After they knocked on the door, they heard a sound that resembled someone handling a firearm. The special police unit (USP) was called out at once.
The residence was evacuated on safety grounds and a security perimeter was set up. The resident in question was ultimately arrested on the orders of the Diekirch public prosecutor's office and appeared before the examining magistrate on Thursday. Two airsoft pistols were seized inside the flat. The operation ended shortly before 9pm, with the N7 closed temporarily for the duration.
