Enjoying movement, sharing experiences, and discovering new sports: this has been the aim of the 'Spillfest' – play fest – in Luxembourgish organised by the Luxembourg Olympic and Sporting Committee (COSL), for more than 40 years. The 2026 edition will take place on Ascension Day, 14 May, and will be organised for the first time at the Coque and in Kirchberg Park.
With the facilities available in Kirchberg, the COSL, in cooperation with the City of Luxembourg and numerous sports associations, has access to completely new possibilities. For the first time, water will also play a role.
Under the motto "… du sport et de l'eau!" – sport and water – visitors will be able to try activities such as aquafitness, water gymnastics, and diving. Those interested should therefore not forget to bring their swimwear.
With more than 70 workshops and around 700 volunteers, the logistical effort is enormous, but also reflects the strong commitment behind the event, according to the organisers. With around 15,000 visitors each year, the 'Spillfest' is one of the largest grassroots sports events in Luxembourg.
The organisers are also taking new steps in the digital field, with the aim of creating lasting connections beyond the 'Spillfest' itself.
Through the new LëtzMoveFinder tool, those interested will be able to get directly in touch with a sports association or specialists, so that trying out an activity at the 'Spillfest' does not have to remain a one-off experience and may instead lead to longer-term involvement in a particular sport.
The tool shows which activities are available where and how people can continue practising them.
The 'Spillfest' app has also been developed in cooperation with the Luxembourg Athletics Federation (LFA). Visitors can register in advance via QR code and will then receive a wristband on site with an integrated code.
This should make participation in the different workshops easier, as the wristband can be scanned directly, helping the event run more smoothly. Anyone who visits at least seven workshops will receive a gym bag as a reward. Those who complete 12 stations can receive a T-shirt.
Food trucks, on-stage entertainment, and attractive prizes will provide further variety. Payment will be handled through a cashless system, which is intended to make the event run even more smoothly.
The 'Spillfest' is financially supported by the Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte, Olympic Solidarity, and the City of Luxembourg, whose involvement plays an important role in making this large-scale event possible.
The guiding principle "Sport for all" is more than just a slogan. The aim of the 'Spillfest' is to encourage people to enjoy physical activity regardless of age, background, or physical ability. The traditional event is open to everyone: children, young people, families, and senior citizens are all equally welcome.
A particular focus is placed on inclusion. In cooperation with the Luxembourg Paralympic Committee and Special Olympics Luxembourg, many workshops will be organised in such a way that they are also accessible to people with disabilities.
To travel to and from the 'Spillfest' smoothly on 14 May, the organisers recommend using the tram and the Park & Ride options at Kirchberg and Glacis.
