Belval"Student for One Day" initiative held in Luxembourg this year

The purpose of the day is to give high school students a glimpse into what life at university may look like.

The pandemic has certainly changed the way in which students live their lives at university, but will it also affect the institutional choices of future academics?

At the moment, restrictions and uncertainty render it difficult to make an adequate choice. ACEL, the Association of Luxembourg Student Unions, has long organised its "Student for One Day" initiative, which usually helps pupils get a better picture of their university options.

This year's edition was not held abroad, but at the University of Luxembourg in Belval.

A number of Luxembourgish student associations from different towns came back to the Grand Duchy for the occasion. Participants needed to register for the event beforehand as part of the new safety measures.

People were also invited to send in questions. Despite the difficulty of the situation, experienced students advise pupils to consider their choices wisely.

Government student funding will be extended for all people that were registered in the academic year 2019/2020. This means that concerned students now have three extra semesters that they can use to finish their degrees while still being eligible for financial support.

Both ACEL and the funding administration receive many questions regarding the pandemic. Officials report that more students want to study in the Grand Duchy due to the uncertainty stemming from the health crisis. Others may still be registered abroad, but are currently doing all their classes remotely from home.
