State courtTrial postponed until January for 2014 fatal accident

The trial concerning an accident with fatal consequences on the Saar motorway in October 2014 should have concluded on Wednesday.

However, as a report was found to be missing from the file, the trial has now been adjourned until the end of January.

The case concerns two accidents which happened early one foggy morning in October 2014, between the access ramps for Altwies and Frisange. Five cars were involved in the crash, which killed a 30-year-old man.

Three men have been on trial for the accident since Monday.

Wednesday morning's session began with a comment from the President of the Court that a supplementary report on the accident had been mentioned briefly the day before. According to the judge, no basic report on the subject had been found in the file. As a result, since Monday, the investigation of this case had been conducted without this report. Unfortunately this had not been reported previously, and the trial would require references to this report according to a defendant's lawyer. One of the pleas submitted contained information which contrasted to other expert reports, which meant the trial could not continue.

The judge considered that in this case the trial should be adjourned until 22 January.
