Luxembourg police were kept busy with a series of interventions across the country on Monday, ranging from a drug-related arrest in the capital to multiple reports of public disturbances and break-ins.
During a check on Rue Joseph Junck in the Gare neighbourhood late Monday evening, Luxembourg City police observed an individual who quickly began walking towards the railway station upon noticing the patrol vehicle. Citing “suspicious swallowing movements,” officers suspected the person of drug dealing and proceeded with a closer inspection.
According to police, a subsequent CT scan returned a positive result. Acting on orders from the public prosecutor’s office, the suspected dealer was arrested and later brought before an examining magistrate.
Earlier on Monday afternoon, police responded to reports of an incident near Ettelbruck railway station. An individual was alleged to have shouted and urinated inside a bus. Due to their heavily intoxicated state, the person was taken for a medical check-up and subsequently detained in custody.
Overnight, authorities discovered damaged side mirrors on several police vehicles parked on Rue Marie and Pierre Curie in Luxembourg City. A person lingering nearby was apprehended after a brief pursuit.
Police report that the individual had been at the police station shortly before the incident for drink driving and is suspected of damaging the vehicles upon leaving. Following a medical evaluation, the person was deemed a danger to themselves and others and was detained in custody. An official incident report was filed.
At around 1.45am, police were called to an apartment building on Avenue de la Liberté in Niederkorn, where a person was causing a disturbance. The individual had already been asked to leave the premises once but had returned.
When officers attempted to escort the person outside again, they reportedly became provocative. Due to their intoxicated state and continued public disturbance, the individual was detained in custody. They were also issued a fine for insulting the police officers.
On Monday afternoon, unknown perpetrators broke a window to gain entry to a house in Heinerscheid. Once inside, they ransacked several rooms in search of valuables.
A second break-in was reported late Monday evening on Rue de Roeser in Alzingen. In this incident, the culprits are believed to have accessed the home through a terrace door before proceeding to ransack multiple rooms.
Investigations have been launched in connection with both burglaries.
