The fatal accident of 1 September 2025 on the N15, which claimed five lives, remains seared in the public memory. Harrowing images of both vehicles engulfed in flames emerged from the scene and the tragedy was confirmed as the deadliest road accident on Luxembourg’s roads in 36 years.

Calls for action

In the days that followed, Mobility Minister Yuriko Backes made clear that action was needed to slow traffic on the stretch of the N15 between Niederfeulen and Fuussekaul, where vehicles tend to frequently travel at excessive speeds. The installation of a section control speed camera system was swiftly considered and formally justified by a working group within the Ministry of Mobility as early as October, as the minister confirmed in response to a parliamentary question.

Cameras now in place

Installation work began at the start of this week, as RTL was able to observe on site. After cables were laid earlier in the week, the radar units themselves were fitted this Wednesday, drawing more than a few surprised glances from passing motorists.

No date has yet been announced for the start of the testing phase. The National Roads Administration had not responded to a request for comment from RTL Infos at the time of publication.

It is worth noting that prior to the accident, this section of road had not been classified among the country’s most dangerous.
