Whilst the project is underway, it appears that the expression "Rome wasn't built in a day" is certainly apt for the carsharing transformation. Recently, roadworks on the stretch of the motorway between Arlon and the Luxembourgish border were completed and the road's hard shoulder has since become a carsharing lane in times of traffic. In due course, the A6 should continue the carsharing lane from the border onwards.

Bausch discussed the project with the Belgian site L'Avenir and conceded that the project must be completed on the Luxembourgish side in order for the Belgian project to make sense. Given that the Belgian side only currently only makes up 6.5 km, Bausch admitted that the carsharing lane would only make sense if the Luxembourgish side continued it.

However, the minister also pointed out that the Luxembourgish interchanges make the construction works much more complicated and consequently, more expensive than the Belgian project. Bausch did confirm that roadworks would begin in 2021 and last a total of eighteen months. In comparison, the Belgian authorities completed the road transformation in eight months.

As a result, Bausch said that motorists should not expect the project to be completed before 2023. The current costs are estimated at €60 million.

The minister also told the website that the two countries have to work to harmonise traffic conditions on the route. For instance, Belgium's carsharing lane requires that cars have three passengers and limits the speed to 50 km/h. In contrast, Bausch would like to increase the speed limit to 90 km/h and allow buses to use the lane.

At the current time, the authorities are preparing a test phase, which is likely to last until the summer holidays. Motorists will have to keep to speed limits of 90 km/h during rush hour starting in June.
