The closure lasts from 8.30pm on Friday evening until 10pm on Sunday evening.
On Saturday morning, police announced the complete closure of the Howald tunnel on the A1 motorway in direction of Trier. They specified that there had been a fire alarm inside of the tunnel. Police later confirmed that they were gradually allowing drivers to pass through the tunnel. Tailbacks persist and motorists are reminded to form an emergency corridor and, if possible, avoid the motorway for the time being.
Police also remind drivers that it is strictly forbidden to simply turn around on the motorway.
Traffic on the A1 flowing from the Croix de Gasperich towards Trier will be redirected via the N2A, N1A and N1 toward the Senningerberg interchange.

If you are trying to access the A7 motorway, you will also need to drive to the Senningerberg interchange and then head back via the Grünewald junction.
There were also massive tailbacks on the A1 motorway in direction of Trier earlier this Saturday morning. Traffic remains slow-moving if not stationary. At 2pm, the tailbacks even reached the A3 motorway all the way up to the Aire de Berchem service station.

Different motorway, same story: big traffic jams are putting the patience of drivers on the A6 motorway to the test. According to an RTL mobile reporter, traffic in direction of the Belgian border is stationary from Bridel exit ramp up until Capellen exit ramp.

Due to roadworks, traffic is also slow-moving on Place d'Argent in Luxembourg City.
