The municipal executive board of Lorentzweiler has issued a response following a recent RTL report concerning financial management issues within the local council.

In a press release, the board sought to clarify statements made by Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden in an article published by RTL in late February. In that report, Minister Gloden indicated that his staff had identified discrepancies in the council’s accounts.

The Lorentzweiler executive board has now specified that it was not, in fact, officials from the ministry’s oversight department for municipal accounting who first detected the irregularities. According to the board, the issues were initially flagged by the local council’s own staff, who brought the matter to the executive board’s attention in June 2025.

Following this internal alert, the local council unanimously approved a proposal from the executive board to request a thorough review of its accounting from the Ministry of Home Affairs. In its press release, the municipal executive board expressed regret that it has yet to receive a written response to this request.

The board is now demanding the appointment of a special commissioner to conduct an independent evaluation of the situation, including the work of the treasurer responsible at the time. According to the board, the ministry has indicated a preference for an external audit instead. However, as the local council would be required to cover the costs of such an audit, the executive board has reiterated its call for the appointment of a special commissioner.
