On Wednesday, the ecological movement group "MouvEco" presented its demands and visions for the future of the country. Especially in times of crisis, the need for sustainable solutions is as great as ever, they said. The association thereby denounced the planned postponing of tax reforms.

The movement wants to see a coherent plan being developed that would guarantee an ecological balance for the country. President Blanche Weber emphasised:

"The carbon dioxide tax needs to be imposed as soon as possible if we want it to have any kind of impact on the environment. Moreover, we would like to see the introduction of a wealth tax here in Luxembourg, as well as a digitalisation tax, and a tax on financial transactions."

MouvEco is determined to make use of the crisis to achieve a nation-wide change in perspective when it comes to matters of the economy, politics, or society itself. Cédric Metz explained:

"Over the past couple of weeks and months, we noticed a value shift here in Luxembourg. More people are working outside, meeting with friends and family, and consumption has reduced significantly."

According to the organisation, the arrival of the coronavirus has proven that adaptive mechanisms, such as home office culture or reduced work schedules, can be introduced rather quickly and would thus need to stay a valid option in the future.

Weber further underlined the necessity for a coherent economic relief package to counter the pending recession: "We cannot blindly throw money at the problem, like we did during the last financial crisis!"

In a final statement, MouvEco highlighted the fact that a vaccine could be found for Covid-19, but that no such magical potion could be developed for the dying planet.
