As the retrial in the long-running Bommeleeër affair is now under way, the appeal proceedings are narrowing the number of defendants involved. Only four individuals will now remain in the dock, according to Radio 100,7.
Those expected to stand trial again are former high-ranking gendarmerie officers Pierre Reuland, Aloyse Harpes, Guy Stebens, and Armand Schockweiler.
In the first-instance trial, only Pierre Reuland, the former Director General of the police, was convicted, receiving a three-year suspended prison sentence for making false statements in court. His lawyer, Roland Assa, subsequently lodged an appeal against that ruling.
However, the public prosecutor has also filed an appeal against the ruling concerning the four individuals mentioned above, according to information reported by 100,7. As a result, Marcel Weydert and Guillaume Büchler will no longer have to appear in court in connection with the case.
