A longstanding sports journalist, Lahure originated from Niederkorn where he caught the sports bug early on in life. From 1965 onwards he was a journalist for Tageblatt, and from 1988 to 2002 he worked for Revue. He also presided over the Luxembourg Sports Press for 27 years.
His heart belonged to the Luxembourgish national football team, which he still accompanied on their travels until last year.
His second great love was reserved for cycling, mostly for the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France. In 2024, Lahure experienced the grand opening in Tuscany and wrote his columns about it. He also attended the Tour de France 46 times.
What follows is an anecdote from a Tour de France he attended: Lahure was always one of the first journalists inside the press room at the bicycle race. His main goal was to score a good seat – next to the hallway, with his left side facing the hallway. He was also one of the last reporters to leave the room. French-speaking colleagues thus took to calling the room “Salle de Petz”, which translates to Petz’s room.
Furthermore, French President Emmanuel Macron awarded Lahure for his 15 journalistic participations at the Olympic Games at the Elysée Palace in Paris.
Lahure’s last public appearance dates back to two weeks ago, when he attended the reception held in honour of the Luxembourg “Female Athlete of the Year 2024". The RTL team sends their deepest condolences to his family and his closest circle.
